Leaves of Absence

Eligible employees are entitled to Family Medical Leave Act, Leaves of Absence and Worker's Compensation. 

Below is a brief description of the UMass Chan policies for each type of leave. There is also a link to the forms to complete for each type of leave.

 

Family Medical Leave: All employees who have been employed by UMass Chan for at least 12 months and who have worked 1,250 hours during the previous 12 month period are eligible for the Family Medical Leave Act. Employees governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) should refer to the appropriate CBA for clarification.

Leaves of Absence: All employees, excluding Residents and Faculty, who have been employed by UMass Chan are eligible for an unpaid leave of absence for at least six months. Employees governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) should refer to the appropriate CBA for clarification.

Worker's Compensation: Employees who are injured or who become ill as a result of performing their job duties are provided Workers’ Compensation benefits. Workers’ Compensation leave shall run concurrently with Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), if eligible. It is expected that employees will return to work as soon as possible in a full or partial capacity.
