New Anatomy Leadership Positions

Department Chair Max Rosen recently announced the exciting news about new leadership positions for Faculty in the Translational Anatomy Division.

Lela Giannaris, PhD, Assistant Professor, Anatomy UMass Chan Medical SchoolLela Giannaris, PhD has been appointed Interim Director for the anatomy component of the DSF Course (SOM1 Development Structure & Function). Dr. Giannaris has been at UMass since 2010 and holds many leadership positions at the University, including Co-leader Capstone Scholarship and Discovery Course, Director of the Summer Anatomy Enrichment Program and teaches an extensive course load in both the DSF and Brain (Track 1 Neuroanatomy) courses. She is a sought-after advisor and mentor to many UMass Chan students and has been honored with several teaching awards.

 

Yasmin Carter, PhD - Assistant Professor Anatomy, UMass Chan Medical SchoolYasmin Carter, PhD will assume new educational leadership roles in both the DSF course and within the inter-professional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulations (iCELS). Since 2015, Dr. Carter has been a strong voice for educational innovation. She continues with her appointment to the role of founding Director of the Innovations Lab (iLab) in iCELS. The Vision of the newly restructured Innovations lab is to be a creative maker-space where educators, clinicians, researchers and community members collaborate to solve 21st century challenges in learning and healthcare through sustainable innovation. In this new position, Dr. Carter will help lead ongoing efforts to utilize technology-enhanced learning to augment education and clinical practice. This will include optimization of the Anatomage Skills Lab within DSF and beyond, and growth of efforts in online, virtual and augmented reality and 3D printing learning tools. Dr. Carter has held numerous leadership positions both at the local and national levels.
