Medical Student Flexible Clinical Experiences (FCE)

Addiction Psychiatry
This course will provide the third year medical student with a clinical experience focusing on the comprehensive evaluation of patients with substance use disorders and to work closely with addiction psychiatrist. The experience takes place at the Addiction and Comorbidity Treatment Research Unit (ACT-R) located at University Campus and Community Healthlink. A rotation at Adcare or Spectrum may also de included depending on availability of supervising faculty. The faculty involved in this rotation are Gerardo Gonzalez, MD (ACT-R), Amy Harrington, MD and Zafar Naqvi, MD.
Addiction Psychiatry Research
This course will provide the third year medical student with an academic experience focusing on the understanding of the pharmacology of drug of abuse, animal models of addiction, human laboratory administration studies, fMRI evaluating inhibitory control and randomized clinical trials evaluating pharmacotherapy for substance use disorders. The experience takes place at the Addiction and Comorbidity Treatment Research Unit (ACT-R) and Brudnick Neuropsychiatric Research Institute (BNRI) located at University Campus. The faculty involved in this rotation are Gerardo Gonzalez, MD (ACT-R) and Andrew Tapper, PhD (BNRI).
