Prerequisites: Completion of 3rd year Medicine & Surgery clerkships, and  Radiology type "C" 
Elective Description: The elective is designed to further the clinical knowledge of the student regarding the role of interventional radiology in managing medical and surgical problems.  Indications and contradictions of interventional radiology procedures as they relate to patient care will be discussed on a daily basis.

As a part of a team the student will immediately participate in the work-up of patients that are to undergo interventional radiology procedures.  Daily work rounds will feature a detailed discussion on the interventional procedure regarding expected outcome. The student will gain experience with interpretation of radiology imaging such as computer body tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound.  Evidence based learning regarding the efficacy of interventional radiology procedures in managing particular patient problems will be stressed. 

Under the supervision of the attending/fellow the student will participate daily in the performance interventional radiology procedures.  The student will be expected to attend all radiology teaching conferences. 

Note: B2/ Students must engage in the type of clinical care carried out by the clinicians practicing in this field but may not have direct patient care as a major feature of the elective.
