Elective Description:

The goal of the renal elective is to engage the student with the basic principles of renal pathophysiology and immunopathology by exposure to a diverse, high volume nephrology service.  The student will learn the management of common renal diseases, fluid-electrolyte and acid-base disturbances and hypertension.  The nephrology service is divided into three units; consultative, end-stage renal disease, and transplantation.  The student will have an opportunity to rotate among these units on both the in-patient and out-patient services.

Please note: Except under extenuating circumstances, cancellation or withdrawal is not permitted because of the demand for this elective and our policy that we do not like to refuse or decline applications for this elective.
