Elective Description: This elective includes all aspects of clinical endocrinology and metabolism and diabetes. The student will see patients in both the In-Patient and Out-Patient setting. In outpatient clinics they will be taught by the Faculty member who is the physician of record for the patient. In the In-Patient setting they will assist on consultations and be taught by the Endocrine-Diabetes Attending and the Endocrine Fellow on call. Some months Medical Residents will also participate in teaching rounds. A wide variety of endocrine disease is seen in the active endocrine clinics which meet daily with the faculty.

The student will be responsible for seeing all hospitalized patients with endocrinopathies. Conferences with U.M.M.C. faculty and visiting faculty are held regularly. Nuclear Medicine procedures which assist in the diagnosis of endocrine disease will also be emphasized. Faculty members include Drs. Ali, Alonso, Aronin, Arum, Coyne, Domalik, Elias, Haas, Hamoudeh, Harlan, Malkani, Mordes, Safran, Seetharaman, Thompson and Torres and  with special interests in thyroidology, diabetes, calcium metabolism, pediatric endocrinology, neuroendocrinology and reproductive endocrinology.
