Elective Description: This elective seeks to provide an in-depth exposure to Medical Intensive Care. The elective emphasizes the management of respiratory failure and seeks to provide the student with a practical knowledge of mechanical ventilation. In addition, the student should be exposed to critically ill patients with Overdose, GI bleed, Sepsis, and Neurologic illnesses. The student will learn the diagnosis and management of various hemodynamic abnormalities and the use of vasoactive medications. A core curriculum is provided in daily morning lectures. There is an opportunity to perform various ICU procedures under supervision. | |
