A ribbon cutting was held recently for the new CT scanner in the Emergency Department on the University Campus, UMass Memorial. The Philips Spectral CT 7500 is a state of the art  256 slice CT scanner that will bring the new technology of Spectral CT imaging to the Medical Center.  Spectral imaging will improve image quality while simultaneously decreasing radiation dose and decreasing imaging time.  This will result in faster time to diagnosis and treatment, as well as increase CT imaging access to the Emergency Department.  In addition, the table weight limit for this new unit far exceeds that of any CT unit currently within the UMass network and will now allow imaging care for patients up to 675 pounds.
