Lisa Fortuna, MD, MPH

Lisa Fortuna Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

Dr. Fortuna is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. She the Director of Child and Adolescent Multicultural Health Research at the UMass Chan Medical School.

Research Interest

Her research interest include services and disparities research, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adolescent substance abuse and dual diagnosis in adolescence. Dr. Fortuna completed a K23 Patient Oriented Career Development Award from the National Institute of Drug Abuse focused on a therapy development study for adolescents with co-occurring PTSD and substance use disorders. She is also involved in translational research, adapting evidence based interventions for community and school based prevention and mental health interventions with youth.

Clinical Activity

Dr. Fortuna’s clinical work is in child and adolescent psychiatry, primarily in adolescent addiction psychiatry. She works at the Motivational Youth Recovery at Community Healthlink, Inc. Her other clinical work is providing psychiatric treatment for immigrant and refugee patients, especially the treatment of PTSD.

Educational Activity

Dr. Fortuna’s teaching reflects her clinical and research interest. She is a faculty member of the UMass Chan Medical School child psychiatry and addictions psychiatry divisions. She teaches psychiatry resident and child fellow classes in cultural psychiatry, treatment with adolescent sexual minorities and adolescent substance abuse. She also precepts and supervises residents, fellows and medical student rotations on in the Motivating Youth Recovery program, a Community HealthLink program for adolescents with addictions and dual diagnosis.Her research interests include Latino mental health services research, immigrant mental health, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse and dual diagnoses in adolescence.
