Elective Description: 

The student will gain exposure to inpatient and outpatient adult and pediatric Urology, working with both residents and attending faculty.The elective is continuum of the third year clerkship with increased responsibility in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative surgical care.  The student may participate in on-going housestaff activities including admission work-ups, night call, emergency and operating experience. Responsibilities of the medical student will include participating in outpatient and inpatient surgeries, evaluating patients in the emergency room and outpatient clinic setting, inpatient call, and rounding on inpatients and consults. The student will get exposure to a variety of operative cases, ranging from outpatient minor procedures in the office to major open abdominal surgery and laparoscopic/robotic surgery. At the end of the rotation, the student is expected to prepare and present a ten minute discussion on a urologic topic of their choosing. Evaluations of the student will be performed by the attending faculty and residents.
