Prerequisites: 4th year medical student
Elective Description: The student will function as an acting intern on the Surgical Oncology service. He/she will be expected to round on the inpatients, write daily progress notes, attend the multidisciplinary GI and Breast conferences weekly. The student will assist in surgery and attend at least one clinic session per week, the contents of which should be representative of general Surgical Oncology.  Educational and clinical care activities will be under the immediate direction of the chief and senior residents on the Surgical Oncology service. The student will also participate as a reviewer in the weekly journal club and read the articles assigned for this service. At the discretion of the student and after discussion with the rotation director, the student may elect to choose an experience more heavily weighted towards GI surgical oncology or towards breast surgical oncology.
