Elective Description: The Pediatric Nephrology elective at UMMHC aims to acquaint the student with the presentation, diagnosis and management of children with a vast variety of kidney diseases.  Students will participate in the evaluation of children in the outpatient clinic, inpatient Pediatric Nephrology service and inpatient consultations.  The basic principles of pathophysiology, renal pathology and immuno-pathology will be reviewed by exposure to an expanding pediatric renal service.  The student will learn the approach to common pediatric nephrology referrals, as well as the diagnosis and management of congenital, genetic and acquired kidney diseases, fluid-electrolyte and acid-base disturbances, pediatric hypertension and immune-mediated renal diseases.
