Elective Description: The primary experience for the student will be an inpatient-based clinical consultative one. The student will see hospitalized patients for whom infectious disease consultation has been requested by other physicians in the hospital. The student will learn principles of infectious disease and microbiology, as well as how the consultant influences and helps patient care. The generation of a judicious and cost effective work-up as well as the prudent use of antibiotics is stressed. In addition, the student will be exposed to outpatients in Travel Medicine, HIV, and General Infectious Diseases clinics. | |
