Prerequisites: Successful completion of core curricular requirements; MDPhD students in PhD who desire additional clinical exp.

Elective Description: The course will provide the student with an overview of field medicine and disaster management, both from the perspective of clinical care as well as provider preparedness. Enrolled students will be involved, under appropriate faculty supervision, in the set-up and organization of a community field hospital created to care for low acuity patients in a non-hospital setting. Students will further be members of teams providing care for patients who are seen in the field hospital setting. Prior to participating in patient care, all enrolled students will complete a course in COVID-19 Pandemic Medicine, receiving instruction in the infectious diseases basics, epidemiology, and transmission of SARS-CoV-2, as well as a refresher course in pulmonary and cardiac elements of care of patients with community acquired pneumonias. Students will receive instruction in medical/emergency triage and initial stabilization of patients who are not sufficiently ill to be seen in a hospital setting.
