Dr Joseph T. Ferrucci Jr Radiologist of the Year 2026

Christopher Sereni, MD, was honored as the 2026 Joseph T. Ferrucci, Jr. Radiologist of the Year during the graduation ceremonies in June. Dr. Sereni is assistant professor in the division of musculoskeletal imaging.

During the past year Chris has led our efforts to implement SECTRA PACS. Chris took on this responsibility with an enormous amount of enthusiasm and an abundance of generosity. For months he worked tirelessly with SECTRA, UMass IT, Radiologists and Technologists to ensure that all stakeholder’s voices were “heard” as we designed the project design and build. 

As the Project Sponsor SECTRA, Chris was identified at the February IT Steering Committee for exemplary “strong sponsorship for:

• Actively engages with peers to ensure alignment
• Engages other leaders to assist with communication and engagement of all entities
• Uses various means of communication to engage all impacted stakeholders including Radiology’s SharePoint site
• Actively engages with Change Practitioners on the change management plan
• Actively engages with vendors to ensure impacted stakeholders receive appropriate training

Throughout the SECTRA implementation Chris received several “UMatter” recognitions from SECTRA team members such as:

Not once have I heard “I can’t” or “I’m too busy.” Instead, it’s been a steady chorus of “Where can I help?”—followed by action. You’ve adapted to shifting priorities with grace, kept the momentum going, and shown real commitment to getting us to the finish line.

In summary, Chris has gone above and beyond to give his time and expertise to ensure that the SECTRA implementation when as smoothly as possible. He combined a detailed knowledge of the multiple system complexities involved in the implementation with a deep concern and responsiveness to everyone’s questions and individual workflows. Chris has been the ultimate team player, coach and leader.
