Elective Description:
This is a two‐week course in which Medical Students study the molecular, cellular, and genetic basis of disease, selecting a specific area of study from a menu of 10‐12 topic areas such as genetics, cancer, autoimmune/inflammatory disease, cardiovascular disease, and in‐born errors of metabolism. Students will participate in a structured didactic program including a small number of core lectures, interactive lectures, directed group projects and presentations (both faculty‐ and student‐led). Other activities to strengthen core skills will include discussions/comparisons of selected papers designed to help them build their expertise in the thematic area. Students will also be responsible for examining a specific, limited problem or question of their choosing within the scope of the area in a “real world” manner. Each class will be limited to no more than 12 students. Teaching will be collaborative and individualized to the extent possible, drawing on faculty, student participants themselves, and advanced Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences students.
