Shanghai Jiaotang University faculty members visit UMass Chan Department of Psychiatry

Jijun Wang, MD, director of neurophysiology and neuroimaging, and Shun-Ying Yu, MD, director of psychiatric genetics at Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai Jiaotong University, in China, visited the Department of Psychiatry Nov. 15, 2012 to tour clinical and laboratory facilities, learn about research projects, and meet with division leaders.

The visit was part of an effort by Douglas Ziedonis, MD, MPH, chair of the department, and Xiaoduo Fan, MD, MPH, director of the Psychotic Disorders Clinic and Research Program, to build cooperation in the mental health field between the Shanghai-based institution and the Department of Psychiatry – UMass Chan Medical School, UMass Memorial Health Care.

Dr. Fan and Dr. Ziedonis visited Shanghai Jiaotong University during a 10-day, November 2012 trip to China.

A national leader in public-sector psychiatry, the Department of Psychiatry is also committed to improving mental health on a global scale and increasing international cooperation in the field by sharing the newest educational tools and programs, research and clinical care expertise.

The department’s faculty members have traveled to more than 50 countries on six continents for research, clinical work, consulting assignments, education, training, volunteering, and other purposes.

The Department of Psychiatry operates a Visiting Scholars Program on the UMass Chan campus and has activities and partnerships in Albania, Australia, Brazil, China, Ecuador, England, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and Thailand.
