Psychiatry Career Development and Research Office Award for Career Development Mentoring

This announcement requests nominations for the Psychiatry Career Development and Research Office Award for Career Development Mentoring. Students and Faculty members may nominate any Department of Psychiatry faculty member. Nominations should come from persons who have been the beneficiaries of such mentoring. Nomination letters need to describe the nature of the mentoring relationship and how it helped the individual’s career. As indicated above, the mentoring process could have been either formal or informal. If one of our faculty members has made an impact on your professional life, please nominate them.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Detailed nominations letters from mentees should be emailed to PsychiatryCDRO@umassmed.edu for forwarding to the selection committee. The selection committee will review the initial letters and choose the finalists for further consideration. Selected nominees will be asked to provide a copy of their CV and references relevant to the context of the candidate’s program. Once the material has been submitted, a final choice will be made by the Selection Committee. The 2009 award will be presented at our Psychiatry Research Day on October 21, 2009.

DEADLINE: Nomination letters must be received by September 1, 2009.

BRIEF OVERVIEW:

Our Department seeks to honor faculty members who give freely and generously of their time to provide others support and guidance. The Psychiatry Career Development and Research Office Award for Career Development Mentoring is intended to recognize persons who have helped students and/or faculty colleagues succeed in their professional lives. We seek to honor those faculty members who work both informally with junior and senior faculty, as well as serve in formal mentoring roles with faculty and students. These mentors may be the unsung heroes of their professions, who play an enormous role in the growth and strength of our Department.

As you know, mentoring is a very important contribution to our Department. Please consider sending your nominations to the Psychiatry CDRO no later than September 1st.
