The Department of Psychiatry at UMass Memorial Health Care is currently accepting inquiries from physicians/psychologists interested in exploring affiliated clinical/academic job opportunities. The Department has a faculty of more than 270 physicians/psychologists engaged in a variety of clinical and academic pursuits. It is the largest and most highly regarded provider of psychiatric services in Central Massachusetts. Clinical, teaching and academic opportunities are currently available at a wide variety of affiliated sites and programs.

UMass Memorial Medical Center is situated in Worcester, MA, the second largest city in New England, and an area rich in history and cultural diversity. Public Sector Forensic Psychiatrist

The UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a psychiatrist with a career interest in Public Sector Psychiatry for a position at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH). Successful candidates will receive a faculty appointment to facilitate teaching, and can receive all the CME and risk management credits they need without leaving the building. WRCH, a state-of-art inpatient and rehabilitation facility that opened its new hospital in October, 2012, is a short walk from the Medical School where research and teaching opportunities are easy to accommodate and are actively encouraged. This public psychiatric hospital is unique with a person-centered, recovery-focus as a fundamental operative principle. We have worked to make this a family friendly position with a weekday schedule only. There is no required on-call, no evenings, no weekends, no nights, and no holidays. Of note, physicians can sign up for voluntary night and weekend shifts at lucrative pay. There are excellent state benefits with a pension plan. There are 13 paid holidays, 4 weeks of paid vacation, three paid conference days, 2 paid personal days, and a $3,000 annual practice allowance.

Faculty Position - Program Evaluation, UMass Chan Medical School

The Department of Psychiatry at the UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester, MA, is a national leader in public sector psychiatry. Our mission is to provide excellent state-of-the-art and recovery-informed patient care, research, training, and community engagement in an effort to enhance the mental health of all citizens in Massachusetts and beyond. We are the largest provider of psychiatric services in Central Massachusetts, with a team of over 300 faculty and 2,000 staff. We take pride in our outstanding clinical services, innovative educational and training programs, research advances, and our position as a workplace of choice. We are working to become the best integrated department of psychiatry in the nation. We are recruiting for a new Program Evaluator position. This person will be responsible for conducting evaluations of existing research projects while building further evaluation capacity in the Drug and Mental Health Courts in Massachusetts, through the Center of Excellence (COE) for Specialty Courts as well as more broadly in the Department of Psychiatry. The majority of the time will be devoted to conducting evaluations and writing grants related to criminal justice, with an emphasis on issues that impact Drug and Mental Health Courts. Additional responsibilities may include supervising the performance appraisal process for personnel. This position reports directly to the Director of the Center of Excellence and the Director of the Research core within the COE. Faculty appointment (non-tenured) at appropriate rank is available.

The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in psychology or a related social science field or related extensive experience in program evaluation, and previous mental health services research experience. The candidate will demonstrate collaborative leadership style with excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Hospitalist/psychiatrist

The UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a hospitalist/psychiatrist to work evenings and nights at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH). WRCH, a state-of-art inpatient and rehabilitation facility that opened its new hospital in October, 2012, is a short walk from the Medical School where research and teaching opportunities are easy to accommodate and are actively encouraged. This 320-bed public psychiatric hospital is unique with a person-centered, recovery-focus as a fundamental operative principle. Shifts are 15 hours so a full time job can be done in two to three days. There are excellent state benefits with a pension plan. There are 13 paid holidays, four weeks of paid vacation, three paid conference days, two paid personal days, and a $3,000 annual practice allowance. The successful candidate must be BE/BC in Psychiatry, Medicine, Primary Care or Family Medicine.

The UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a psychiatrist with a career interest in Forensic Psychiatry for a position on a forensic evaluation unit at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH). WRCH, a state-of-art inpatient and rehabilitation facility that opened in October, 2012, is a short walk from the Medical School so research and teaching opportunities are easy to accommodate and actively encouraged. This public psychiatric hospital has an active forensic service with about 800 admissions per year from courts, jails and prisons. The successful candidate must be BE/BC with training/experience in Forensic Psychiatry preferred.

Addiction Clinical/Research Post-Doctoral Fellow

UMass Chan Department of Psychiatry seeks a full time Addiction Clinical / Research Post-Doctoral Fellow to work with senior faculty members and interdisciplinary project teams for ongoing research studies. Fellows will assist with manuscript and grant preparation, administer clinical assessment and treatment protocols to research participants, engage in organizational change studies, and be expected to apply for independent grant funding in their second year.

The addiction clinical research post doctoral fellowship is for trainees interested in developing academic research careers in the area of addiction with an emphasis on opportunities in studying co-occurring mental illness and addiction, including a focus on tobacco addiction and integrating wellness into treatment. The mission of the program is to facilitate the fellow’s transition to a successful academic research career by assisting the fellow to develop an externally funded independent program of research, and to become a collaborative and productive member of an interdisciplinary research team. Fellows with clinical career goals are able to learn how to best integrate research into clinical practice. Clinical sites available include the wide range of clinical programs in the Department of Psychiatry, as well as the Veterans Affairs setting, and various UMass Memorial Health Care settings. Fellows can provide clinical services in clinical sites depending on prior experience, and may obtain clinical supervision to meet licensing requirements.
