Department of Youth Services – Adolescent Psychiatry Services in Central MA

The UMASS Psychiatry team consists of two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who provide medication management for youth receiving treatment at eight Department of Youth Services (DYS) residential programs located in Central Massachusetts.  Our team provides a variety of psychiatric services for youth in different stages of the criminal justice system.  These include:

• Continuation of psychiatric treatment initiated in the community for youth committed short-term
• Initial evaluation and psychiatric treatment planning for newly committed youth
• Psychiatric evaluation for youth experiencing a psychiatric crisis who are in need of emergent medication assessment
• Coordination of care for youth returning to a DYS program following psychiatric hospitalization
• Continuation of psychiatric services for youth re-admitted to DYS
• Provision of discharge prescriptions and acting as a liaison with community prescribers
• Writing evaluations for youth referred by Department of Mental Health and Department of Developmental Services.
