University of Massachusetts/Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences

MPH Program on the Worcester Campus
Admission Requirements

Applicants for the MPH degree program should have either an advanced degree in a health related discipline (medicine, nursing, social work, etc) or a minimum of 2 years of appropriate post baccalaureate experience in a health related field as determined by the admissions committee.  All applicants will also be required to submit a current CV along with their personal statement that includes a detailed description of their health-care work (unless they meet the requirement of having a graduate degree in a health-related field).

Application deadlines are March 1 for Fall admission and October 1 for Spring admission.

In addition applicants must meet the general requirements of the Graduate School:

  • a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75;
  • an original transcript from all undergraduate institutions;
  • two letters of recommendation, preferably from academic institution;
  • a personal statement describing your reasons for pursuing the MPH degree;
  • a current CV

Foreign applicants must submit TOEFL examination scores and GRE test results unless they have taken the USMLE or ECFMG.   Because we are a part time program with the majority of classes taken online, we are not able to offer student visas through our program.

Applicants interested in applying should visit the Graduate School Web site or go to http://www.umass.edu and follow to the Graduate Admissions section.  Applications can be submitted online. To request information on the application, please contact Linda Hollis, Program Coordinator at 774-442-6499 or email her at Linda.hollis@umassmed.edu

Be sure to write "Worcester MPH" where it asks for Subplan so that the application will go to the correct campus.

Students may also take courses on a non-degree basis and transfer them into the program if accepted as long as the grade is a B or better.  A total of 12 credits can be transferred.  Please note, however, that successful completion of courses as a non-degree student does not guarantee acceptance to the program.  Please make sure you meet the admission requirements before investing in the program as a non-degree student.

All MPH students are required to complete a three-credit practice experience as a degree  requirement.  For more information on the practicum requirement, please see the practicum section of this website for more information and the applicable forms.
