The Summer Anatomy Enrichment Program Has Another Successful Year!

The Department of Radiology sponsored the Summer Anatomy Enrichment Program (SAEP) again this year.  This program is directed by Lela Giannaris, PhD, faculty member in the Division of Translational Anatomy, and runs for 4-6 weeks in June and July. The SAEP provides advanced review and further training in anatomy for students between their first and second years of medical school. The program is geared toward high achieving students in anatomical sciences with an interest in anatomy education and teaching.

This year, seven students were accepted into the program. Their projects focused on preparation of regional cadaveric dissections that will be used as prosected specimens to enhance the anatomy laboratory component of the Development, Structure and Function (DSF) course for first year medical students. The SAEP students also prepared educational materials such as flashcards and prosection guides that will be used as resources for the current and future DSF courses.  Additionally, some of these students, now in their second year of medical school, will act as teaching assistants for certain anatomy lab sessions in the DSF course.

Dr. Giannaris would like to thank everyone involved in the program for another successful year!
