Fellowships

All University of Massachusetts Medical School Radiology Fellowship Programs not participating in ERAS have pledged to the 2022 application and interview timeline set forth by SCARD (Society of Chairs in Academic Radiology Departments). UMass Memorial Health Care is the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts. It encompasses the UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) and affiliated Community hospitals. UMMMC is a tertiary care facility and is the major teaching hospital for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. UMMMC is a certified primary stroke center, Level I trauma center and the tertiary referral center for Central Massachusetts.

The UMass Medical School’s first Radiology Department was established in 1975 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Lloyd Hawes. In 1977, the radiology residency program was introduced with two residents. In 1980, Dr. Edward Smith assumed Chairmanship. Under his stewardship and subsequent Chairs the department has grown steadily. Our current Chair is Dr. Max Rosen. The Department of Radiology performs approximately 500,000 studies each year and in addition to a robust residency program, offers the following fellowships:

  Independent Interventional Radiology Program Description

 

Application Eligibility and Process

Requirements: 
Applicants must have completed a radiology residency. Applicants must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent. Acceptance is contingent on obtaining a Massachusetts medical license by the start date of Fellowship.

Applicants should also review University of Massachusetts GME eligibility requirements found on the GME website - https://www.umassmed.edu/gme/future-residentsfellows/eligibile/.

For international medical graduates (IMG), the institution accepts J1 visas sponsored by the ECFMG and will assist with H1B transfers only for candidates currently enrolled in another clinical training program on an H1 visa.

For Non-ERAS participating programs application must include:

  • Universal or UMass Application form (click here to download PDF)
  • CV
  • Personal statement
  • 3 letters of recommendation (required to have one from radiology residency program director)
  • USMLE Transcript
    • Fellowship applicants need to have passed ALL USMLE Steps (1, 2CK, 2CS and 3)
    • Applications that are missing USMLE Step 3 will not be considered.
    • ABR certified or board eligible or equivalent degree
  • ECFMG certificate, if applicable

Candidates will be considered for interviews once all application materials are received. Letters of Recommendation should be addressed to the respective Program Director and emailed to RadiologyFellowship@umassmed.edu directly by your Program Coordinator or letter writer.  All application materials must be submitted electronically via email to:
