Chief Residents - 2026-2027

Anthony BilottaAnthony Bilotta, MD, PhD
Medical School: University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine

About Me: I grew up in Leominster, MA, before heading down south to Vanderbilt, where I studied Molecular and Cellular Biology. An early interest in inflammatory bowel disease led me to Texas for my MD/PhD, where my doctoral work explored how fermentation products of dietary fiber influence gut inflammation, a fancy way of saying I spent a lot of time thinking about what we eat and why it matters. I then made my way to UMass Chan for residency, where I was drawn by the quality of clinical training, the culture of resident autonomy, and, of course, the people! This year, I am excited to be serving as one of the chief residents while also applying for a GI fellowship. Outside of medicine, I am a husband and proud dad of two girls. My free time is spent with family and friends by the pool or fire, landscaping, woodworking, and working out, which consists of chasing my kids around the yard and surviving the nightly bedtime routine!

Sam FoxSam Fox, MD
Medical School: UMass Chan Medical School

About Me: I grew up in Marblehead, MA, and am a proud UMass lifer. I attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for college, then UMass Chan Medical School, and finally stayed at UMass Chan for residency. While I briefly left New England to spend a year skiing in Colorado, Massachusetts has always felt like home. People often ask why I have stayed at UMass for so long, and the answer is simple: the people. Throughout every stage of my training, I have been surrounded by outstanding mentors, supportive colleagues, and friends who have made UMass feel like a community rather than just a place to work and learn. I have appreciated the collaborative culture, the opportunity to care for patients from across the Commonwealth, and the relationships that have made Worcester feel like home. Outside of medicine, I enjoy skiing, spending time on the ocean, and cooking. Whether it's a day on the slopes, a boat ride along the North Shore, or trying a new recipe at home, I enjoy any opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

Cindy LeCindy Le, MD
Medical school: UMass Chan Medical School

About Me: I was born and raised in the heart of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, AKA Worcester. I went to UMass Amherst for undergrad, where I studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology along with a minor in Sociology and a certificate in Asian American studies. Then, I took a gap year at Boston Children's. After, I came home to attend medical school at UMass Chan with my husband, where I fell in love with internal medicine, more specifically the kidneys. My husband (in pediatrics)  and I couples matched at UMass, and we will both be staying here for our chief year. What I love about the UMass Internal Medicine Residency Program is the people I work with and the strong clinical foundation it provides given the diverse population we work with. It will truly be an honor to continue to stay here another year to be one of the chiefs! I look forward to teaching the residents and connecting with them! Outside of medicine, you will likely see me out on a run around Route 9, working out in the gym, or checking out the new food scene in the area with my husband! I am hoping to pursue a career in nephrology and geriatrics!

Gamble MorrisonGamble Morrison, MD
Medical School: Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

About Me: I was born and raised in Portsmouth, NH. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire, where I majored in English. After completing a post-baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University, I worked as a clinical research coordinator in the Adult Leukemia Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. I then attended medical school at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where I developed passions for medical education, physiology, and complex problem-solving – interests that ultimately drew me to Internal Medicine. When it came time to apply to residency, I already had a glimpse of everything UMass had to offer through my wife, Christine, who was training here at the time. Three years later, what I value most about our program is its combination of rigorous clinical training with an exceptionally supportive culture. UMass serves a large and diverse patient population that provides endless opportunities for growth while fostering an environment centered on teaching and collaboration. I am excited to serve as Chief Resident this year and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the educational environment and community that has shaped me as both a physician and educator. Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our newborn son, Sebastian, watching (and whenever possible attending) NFL and college football games, and exploring the outdoors through hiking, skiing, or making the short trip to the New England coast. After residency, I hope to pursue a career in Cardiology.

Ellen MurchieEllen Murchie, MD
Medical School: Loyola Stritch School of Medicine

About Me: I was born in Worcester and grew up in Westminster, MA, near Mt. Wachusett. For undergrad, I attended Saint Michael’s College in Vermont, majoring in Biochemistry. After college, I worked for several years as a research technician at Massachusetts General Hospital. I initially planned to pursue a PhD but began exploring a career in medicine after realizing I wanted to have a more direct impact on patient care. This led me to Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago before I ultimately returned to Massachusetts for my internal medicine residency. At UMass, the complexity of our patient population and the quality of our education provided me with excellent clinical training. Serving as a chief resident is an honor, and I’m looking forward to giving back to a program that has given me so much. Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading, baking, and spending time with my fiancé, Alice, and our dog, Birdie. After residency, I hope to pursue a career in Infectious Disease.
