Ambulatory Week 1 (Firm Week) PGY 1-3

Firm Week 1

All Primary Care Residents are assigned to a Residency Learning Community/Firm with the categorical IM residents. During their Firm Ambulatory week, Primary Care residents have 5 continuity clinics at their main clinic site, Benedict Adult Primary Care. They will co-manage a panel of patients with their primary preceptor. During this week, they will attend Ambulatory Didactics with their categorical firm peers. There is built in time for panel management, intervisit care, independent learning, QI projects, and scholarly activity. Residents look forward to a Golden Weekend for wellness and fun activities. This Firm Week schedule will remain the same for all 3 years.

Ambulatory Week 2 (Non-Firm Week) Interns

Non Firm Week 2

As our Primary Care Interns are on a 3+2 schedule, they have a second clinic week without their Firm. During their Non-Firm Ambulatory Week, they have 3 continuity clinics at their main clinic site. Unique to our program, Primary Care Interns do a 1:1 clinic with one of several Benedict General Internal Medicine Leaders who have been practicing primary care for >20 years and hold leadership positions in the medical school and/or clinical system. Another 1:1 clinic is done with a Core Faculty Member of our Primary Care Residency program. These unique opportunities allow new providers to see the different career paths one can take in General Internal Medicine, as well as see the benefits of long-term patient relationships, EMR attention, and tips for insuring wellness and longevity in Primary Care careers. Our Primary Care residents are active participants in Primary Care Leadership Pathway activities, and have a Primary Care Core Curriculum session.  There is built in time for panel management, intervisit care, independent learning, QI projects, and scholarly activity. Primary Care Interns do one non-overnight shift and have the rest of their weekend for wellness and fun activities.

Ambulatory Week 2 (Non-Firm Week)-PGY2-3

Week 2 Non Firm 2-3

As our Primary Care Residents are on a 3+2 schedule, they have a second clinic week without their Firm. In their PGY2 year, residents choose a Second Primary Care site and have increased clinic time in Diabetes, Geriatrics, Dermatology, and Obesity Medicine. PGY3 year is based on individual resident career plans. All Primary Care residents continue in the Primary Care Leadership Pathway and have a Primary Care Core Curriculum session. There is built in time for panel management, intervisit care, independent learning, QI projects, and scholarly activity. PGY2 and 3 Primary Care Residents do either Urgent Care or one non-overnight shift and have the rest of their weekend for wellness and fun activities.
