Zhiping Weng, PhD, professor of biochemistry & molecular pharmacology and director of the Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology
What is your role at UMMS and how does it support the institution overall?
Since founding BIB in 2008, I have recruited highly qualified, computationally focused faculty who collaborate closely with experimental labs to integrate new, high-throughput and data-intensive genomic approaches into biomedical research. BIB faculty provides the research expertise and educational capacity to keep UMMS at the forefront of biology and medicine during an era of remarkably rapid technological change.
What gives you the most satisfaction about your work?
I draw the greatest satisfaction from two components working with the talented BIB faculty and staff to build BIB, and working with my students and postdocs to make scientific discoveries.
What do you love most about UMMS?
Smart, dedicated and inspiring colleagues and highly collaborative research environment.
