Suicide Prevention & Awareness Day at UMass Chan Medical School

As part of National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week, September 5 - 11, UMass Chan Medical School and the Department of Psychiatry will host a day to raise awareness and provide education about suicide prevention.
Please join us Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. – Noon in the Medical School Lobby and from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. in the Sherman Building Lobby.
There will be a short program at 11:30.
Displays will include information tables and awareness ribbons will be distributed.
Each year, 42,773 Americans die by suicide, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. Of those, over 6,000 are military veterans. For every suicide there are ~ 25 attempts, resulting in over one million attempts annually. Suicide has lasting impacts on individuals, families, friends and communities. Estimates indicate the number of survivors of suicide loss in the U.S. is 15.09 million (1 of every 21 Americans in 2014).
