Laurel StineLaurel Stine to Study NINJ1 Regulation with F31 Grant

Laurel Stine, a graduate student in the lab of Fiachra Humphries, PhD, received an F31 grant award to study the regulation of ninjurin1 (NINJ1). According to Laurel, our current understanding of programmed cell death does not include how the plasma membrane rupture executor, NINJ1, is regulated. With this grant, Laurel will leverage biochemistry, mass spectrometry, microscopy, and genetic models to dissect NINJ1 regulation at the molecular level. Dysregulated PMR contributes to the pathology of numerous chronic inflammatory diseases; thus, understanding NINJ1 regulation will provide novel insights into the control of inflammatory cell death and may identify new targets for therapeutic intervention.
