October Resident Spotlight: Sahil Chaudhuri, MD

In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we feature Sahil Chaudhuri, MD, a second-year, categorical Internal Medicine Resident. We recently caught up with Dr. Chaudhuri to learn more about his clinical and research interests, why he chose UMass Chan for residency, and his favorite things to do in the Worcester area!

Hometown?
Buffalo, New York

What are your clinical and research interests?
Currently, I intend to pursue a nephrology fellowship (possibly with further specialization in transplant nephrology), but have not excluded going into hospital medicine. In terms of clinical research, I am generally interested in glomerulonephritis and specifically IgA nephropathy. I additionally have an interest in continuing to work towards identifying systemic gaps in care centered around healthcare literacy and working to create a more equitable healthcare system.

Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass Chan that you’d like to highlight?
I am part of the recently created Nephrology Interest Group (shoutout to Tyler and Cindy) and am part of the Peer Mentorship Program, both of which I feel contribute to the excellent learning environment by fostering professional development and a strong sense of community.

What makes UMass Chan a great place for your residency?
I think the greatest asset that UMass Chan has is the people who make up our program. Every single person, whether it be residents, faculty, or administrative staff, genuinely enjoys working together to make this program a place where residents are given the tools to succeed both professionally and personally. Additionally, the large and diverse patient population that we serve ensures that the program produces well-rounded physicians who can provide high-quality, culturally competent care.

Favorite hobbies?
I enjoy golfing, reading history (specifically medieval European history), being a Buffalo sports fan (which can be painful at times), and playing video games.

Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Going to Polar Park to watch the WooSox and trying out new restaurants.

In your spare time, what TV show do you binge?
I’ve probably watched the entirety of Brooklyn Nine-Nine 4 or 5 times at this point.

Favorite guilty pleasure snack?
Kettle cooked jalapeño chips with Bison French Onion Dip

What song/artist do you hope comes on first when you press random play on your playlist?
I am a big fan of Dead Poet Society and Twenty-One Pilots.
