January Fellow Spotlight: Sajid Shaik, MD
In this month’s Fellow Spotlight, we feature Sajid Shaik, MD, an Endocrinology fellow at UMass Chan. We recently caught up with Dr. Shaik to learn more about his clinical and research interests, why he chose UMass Chan for his fellowship, and his favorite places to travel!
Hometown?
Guntur, India
What are your clinical and research interests?
Emerging diabetes technologies, including CGM, automated insulin delivery, and digital health tools, as well as endocrine oncology and metabolic medicine, with an emphasis on evidence-based, pharmacologic approaches to weight management.
Why did you choose UMass Chan for your fellowship?
UMass Chan is unique because of its excellent balance of clinical and research opportunities and its location, offering the classic New England charm. The Endocrinology division is deeply committed to fellow education, and combined with the collaborative culture, diverse patient population, and my positive experience completing my internal medicine residency in Worcester, it made continuing my training in Massachusetts an easy choice.
Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass Chan that you’d like to highlight?
Our multidisciplinary neuroendocrine conferences are highly educational and provide excellent exposure to complex cases. I also greatly value the opportunities to teach medical students, which I find particularly rewarding.
Where is your favorite place to travel for vacation and why?
Acadia National Park or anywhere along the coast of Maine. I love the vast wilderness, pristine beaches, vibrant food and culture, and the incredible opportunities for stargazing and astrophotography.
What was your favorite book as a child?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to Hogwarts?!
In your spare time, what TV show do you binge?
I enjoy Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, as well as true crime shows. There’s something about unraveling the mystery and piecing together the story that keeps me hooked.
What song/artist do you hope comes on first when you press random play on your playlist?
“I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic or any song by Coldplay.
