Division of Geriatric Medicine Holds Geriatric Interprofessional Immersion Training

In late April, the Division of Geriatric Medicine held its Geriatric Interprofessional Immersion Training (GIIT) weekend at the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, Massachusetts. This special event, which has taken place annually since 2010, brings together UMass Chan residents with NP students from the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing and PharmD students from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. During the training, learners from different disciplines work together to expand their knowledge of geriatric principles and enhance their teaching and leadership skills.

Participants from the Department of Medicine included UMass Chan residents Drs. Cindy Le, Benjamin Tanenbaum, and Patrick Teebagy. The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Erika Zimmons, director of education in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, and Julie Schutz. Other participating Department of Medicine faculty included Drs. David Dosa, Randy Morse, Sarah McGee, and Jerry Gurwitz.

The annual event is funded through the generosity of the Fuller Foundation and Dr. James Fanale, a long-time faculty member at UMass Chan, who pioneered geriatric medicine in Central Massachusetts.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine thanks Dr. Fanale for this wonderful opportunity!
