UMass Successfully Performs Its First Full-Thickness Resection Device Procedure

The Division of Gastroenterology is excited to share the success of its first Full Thickness Resection Device (FTRD) procedure. During a routine screening colonoscopy, the team discovered a neuroendocrine tumor, which was removed using a newly acquired FTRD. The procedure uses an endoscopic tool to remove layers of the digestive tract wall for deep lesions, combining resection and secure clip closure in one minimally invasive step, preventing open surgery. The patient was discharged on the same day without any complications.

Please join us in recognizing Christopher Marshall, MD, clinical chief and assistant professor of medicine, and Jaroslav Zivny, MD, associate professor of medicine, both of the Division of Gastroenterology and their colleagues for bringing this innovative technology to our patients!
