Geriatric Medicine Clinic Celebrates Clinic Expansion with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Members of the Division of Geriatric Medicine gathered in early September to celebrate the completed expansion initiative in the UMass Geriatric Medicine clinic with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Highlights of the initiative include expanding from 7 exam rooms to 12, allowing the clinic to meet the growing needs of the aging community, locating secretaries and medical assistances more centrally within the clinic, allowing for better clinic flow and improved communication, and transitioning the clinic to a more age-friendly space.
“We have increased the size of our waiting room for better wheelchair accessibility, installed handrails throughout the hallways for mobility assistance, acquired new exam tables with siderails and embedded scales, and an additional bathroom which allows us to accommodate more patients who may have challenges with incontinence or urinary frequency,” shared Linsey Barker, DO, assistant professor of medicine, clinical director and ambulatory physician lead in the Division of Geriatric Medicine. “Our former APL and clinical director Dr. Sarah McGee, and our former division chair, Dr. Jerry Gurwitz, were involved in the initial decision-making and distribution of philanthropy towards this effort. Our incredible office coordinator of 30 years Cindy Ramsey, and our project manager, Andrew Penniman, were also intimately involved in remodel as well.”
We invite members of the department to join us in congratulating the Division of Geriatric Medicine on its updated space to better treat our patients!
