Department of Medicine Faculty Shine at 2026 Convocation and Investiture 
 

On Thursday, September 11, 2026, UMass Chan held its inaugural Convocation and Investiture celebration, honoring faculty across the institution. The event included the inaugural Convocation address, given by Chancellor David McManus, MD, ScM, MBA, the Richard M. Haidack Professor in Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, in which he laid the groundwork for his administration and set the direction for UMass Chan Medical School into the future.  

The Chancellor’s Medal for Distinguished Clinical Excellence was awarded to Jennifer Daly, MD, professor of medicine and clinical chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, and the Chancellor’s Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Stephen Erban, MD, chief and professor of medicine in the Division of Health Systems Science, Clinical Informatics Section.  

The following members of the Department of Medicine were honored and invested as endowed professors: 

Jennifer Wang, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, was appointed to the Herman G. Berkman Chair in Diabetes Care Innovation. 

Samir Malkani, MD, professor of medicine and clinical chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, has been appointed the inaugural holder of the John P. Mordes, MD, and Regina M. Yando, PhD, Chair in Medicine. 

David Dosa, MD, MPH, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, was appointed the inaugural holder of the Meyers Chair in Geriatric Medicine.
