October Resident Spotlight: Daniella Gonzalez, DO

In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we highlight Daniella Gonzalez, DO, a third-year Internal Medicine resident at UMass Chan. We recently caught up with Dr. Gonzalez to learn more about her clinical and research interests, what makes UMass a great place for residency, and the book club she started with Dr. Lauren Feld!

Hometown?
I was born and raised in Miami, FL, but love New England and the change in seasons - I am very excited for fall activities!

What are your clinical and research interests?
I am applying gastroenterology in this cycle and have an interest in women’s health. My research focuses on the impact of gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status on health equity and gaps in access to healthcare.

What makes UMass a great place for your residency?
The general culture of teamwork and collegiality makes UMass such a special place and I feel so lucky to be part of the UMass family. The network of people I have met, the mentors I have acquired, and the friendships have made my time here very special. Not to mention, the clinical exposure, research opportunities, and our amazing program director (shout out to Dr. Kopec!). UMass is truly an incredible place!

Hobby?
During my free time, I love to curl up with a cozy video game. I am currently playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I also love to read and have started a women in GI book club with my research mentor Dr. Lauren Feld, called Reader’s Digest(ion), feel free to join us! The last book I read was Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. I am always on the lookout for recommendations. Other than that, I enjoy hanging out with my fiancé and our two kittens, Sophie and Cal.

Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Hands down my favorite thing to do in Worcester is eat! My favorite restaurant that I frequent is Armsby Abbey (not sponsored). I eat all kinds of food and I am always discovering new restaurants. I also highly recommend Woo Sox games! I’m a big fan.
