Meet Our Residents (2026-27)

PGY-1:
		Jason Denoncourt, MD (he/him/his) Pronuniciation of Dr. Jason Denoncourt Medical School: UMass Chan Medical School Undergraduate: Northeastern University Hometown: Andover, MA Family Medicine interests: Primary Care, Addiction Medicine, Mental Health, Health Equity Why did I choose to train at Barre? While a student at UMass, I quickly came to appreciate the training quality and impact of our family medicine department. I committed to the specialty through the accelerated MD program, which provided a streamlined path to the program. As a student, I also had early preclinical sessions at the Barre Family Health Center. The faculty are fantastic, and I really appreciate the supportive and collegiate culture of the program. As a Massachusetts native with family nearby, UMass was the perfect choice. It provides great training with a clear community impact, which will allow me to find my niche within our broad specialty and make a meaningful difference! Hobbies: Skiing, Hiking, Cycling, Running, Cooking Fun Fact: I’ve hiked all 48 4000 foot mountains in New Hampshire with my sister.

		Avery Eaton, DO (he/him) Pronunciation of Dr. Avery Eaton Medical School: Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine Undergraduate: Western Carolina University Hometown: Rockingham, NC Family Medicine interests: LGBTQ+ care, rural health, community health (unhoused populations) Why did I choose to train at Barre? I chose to train with UMass because of the welcoming nature I felt during the interview season, a sense that was only strengthened when I arrived for orientation. Every single person I have interacted with has been kind and helpful and respectful. I really feel like I am wanted and valued here. Hobbies: My hobbies are reading (fantasy/sci-fi), yarn arts, playing strategy-heavy board games with my partner, running, learning to play tennis, and collecting cool coins. Fun Fact: I was homeschooled for nine years before starting public school in 8^th grade.

		Barry Huang, MD (he/him/his) Pronunciation of Dr. Barry Huang Medical School: Creighton University School of Medicine-Omaha Undergraduate: Johns Hopkins University Hometown: Acton, MA Family Medicine interests: Academic medicine, Addiction medicine, Global Health Why did I choose to train at Barre? I chose to train with UMass because of its strong academics, welcoming atmosphere, and location close to where I grew up. The program prepares the residents well to do anything within the field of Family Medicine. I was also specifically drawn to the Barre Family Health Center for the diversity of clinical cases and ample opportunity to learn a wide variety of procedures. When I came to UMass for my Second Look after my interview, it was clear that everyone in the program really supported and looked out for one another, and I wanted to be part of a program like that. Hobbies: Tennis, soccer, basketball, hiking, board games, researching random geography facts, and exploring new places! I have been to ten different countries. Fun Facts: I have been to ten different countries.

		Lakshmi Ilango, MD (she/her/hers) Pronunciation of Dr. Lakshmi Ilango, MD Medical School: Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Undergraduate: University of Pittsburgh Hometown: Winchester, MA Family Medicine interests: Global Health, Sports Medicine, Women's Health, Lifestyle Medicine, Full-Spectrum Primary Care Why did I choose to train at Barre? As a Massachusetts native, UMass felt like the ideal place to continue my training and serve the state that helped shape me. I was drawn to the program's commitment to community-oriented primary care, care for diverse patient populations, and strong emphasis on full-spectrum family medicine. I also appreciated the supportive learning environment, opportunities to work with underserved communities, like the Refugee Clinic, and the program's dedication to resident wellness and professional development. I have heard many great things about Barre from friends and colleagues, so I am super excited to join the team! Hobbies: Playing any and all sports—especially ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, basketball, volleyball, and pickleball—as well as cooking, reading, creating art, and watching the WNBA. Fun Facts: Whenever I travel somewhere new, one of my favorite things to do is find a local running or biking route to explore the area.

		Thanmayi Gangavarapu Saravana, MD (she/her/hers) Pronunciation of Dr. Thanmayi Gangavarapu Saravana Medical School: St. John's Medical College Undergraduate: St. John's Medical College Hometown: Bangalore, India Family Medicine interests: Full-spectrum Family Medicine, Rural Medicine, Global Health Why did I choose to train at Barre? UMass is the perfect place for me because I can get the rural medicine experience with Barre but also have experience with urban and diverse population. I also loved the program’s warm and supportive environment, and their celebration of diversity! Hobbies: reading fiction, collecting trinkets, trying new mediums for art(current one is embroidery), writing, trying to make friends with cats, visiting museums Fun Facts: I got a part of my name because my dad was bitten by a snake!!
		Geoffrey Huang, MD (he/him/his) Pronunciation of Dr. Geoffrey Huang Medical School: Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Undergraduate: Brown University Hometown: Barrington, RI Family Medicine interests: Full-Spectrum Primary Care, Addiction Medicine, Preventative Medicine, Outpatient procedures, Sports Medicine, Epidemiology, Teaching Health equity Why did I choose to train at Barre? The combination of a rigorous urban inpatient training environment combined with a more rural outpatient clinic was a major attraction for me to the program. I also completed a sub-internship at Hannheman, and I loved my colleagues and living in the city of Worcester, which I felt had great culture as well as being located close to Boston and Rhode Island. Hobbies: As an avid outdoorsman, I can be found outside of work hiking, rock climbing, running, biking, swimming, golfing, fishing, and traveling. After a long day, I enjoy socializing with friends, weight-lifting, cooking, painting, playing board/video games, and watching movies. Fun Facts: I've traveled to every continent except Africa and Antarctica. I recently ascended Angel's Landing at Zion National Park in Utah, which some consider to be one of the most dangerous hikes in the United States. I am a consistent triple bogey player on the golf course. One of my paintings can be seen on display at the Brown Music Department. My favorite movie is "Midnight in Paris" because I am a sucker for nostalgia.
		Alexandra Mazur, MD (she/her/hers) Pronunciation of Dr. Alexandra Mazur Medical School: University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine Undergraduate: University of Florida Gainesville Hometown: Lakeland, Florida Family Medicine interests: Full Spectrum Primary Care, Preventive Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Obesity Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Women’s Health, and Adolescent Medicine Why did I choose to train at Barre? My husband and I chose to move to Massachusetts from Florida as we were looking to escape the heat and join our many family members already living in New England. I chose UMass Barre for my training because I wanted to train at a rural family medicine practice and still have the opportunity for inpatient and specialty rotations at a large academic medical center. I visited BFHC in person after my interview and was amazed at their scope of practice, especially in comparison to the urban family medicine practice I rotated at in medical school. At BFHC, I will have the opportunity to manage a wide spectrum of disease for all patient populations. Faculty at Barre are incredibly friendly and practice comprehensive, evidence-based medicine. My training at Barre will best prepare me for work as a Primary Care Physician in rural New England. Hobbies: Hiking, Kayaking, Running, Cooking, Baking, Gardening, Traveling, Spending Time with Friends and Family Fun Facts: My husband and I walked along the oldest surviving road in Europe (1000 BC) in Crete, Greece!
		Sarah Yoder, MD (she/her/hers) Pronunciation of Dr. Sarah Yoder Medical School: Franklin H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University Undergraduate: Northeastern University Hometown: Scarborough, ME Family Medicine interests: Health equity, reproductive health, pediatric behavioral health, addiction medicine Why did I choose to train at Barre? From the first time I met the UMass residents at a conference as a medical student, I could just feel that these people would be a good match for me. I felt welcomed by and connected with everyone I met on my interview day, and when I did a second look at the Barre clinic I sensed that the faculty and staff of the clinic created a supportive, educational environment where I could learn to take care of all kinds of patients. I also saw how the rural setting of Barre and the urban setting of Worcester offered a unique, truly full-spectrum opportunity for residents to feel comfortable in any setting. As a National Health Service Corps Scholar, I am passionate about and committed to working in underserved areas, and I feel that UMass will set me up for success no matter where my career takes me. As a bonus, Worcester is close to both my partner's work in Boston and my family in Maine! Hobbies: Running, reading, tackling elaborate cooking projects with my partner, cheering for the Patriots, playing cards. Fun Facts: When I was born, I was delivered by a family doctor and grew up seeing the same primary care doctor as my brother, mom, and grandmothers!

Training at UMass Worcester/Barre allows me to get involved in both immigrant health and rural health. Hobbies: Ice skating, skateboarding, traveling, skincare/makeup/fashion.
PGY-3:
		Cailee Dean, DO (she/her/hers) Medical School: Campbell University Jerry Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine Undergraduate: College of the Holy Cross Hometown: Southampton, MA Family Medicine interests: Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), sports medicine, preventative medicine Why did I choose to train at Barre? I had the opportunity to spend a month with UMass Family Medicine at the Hahnemann Campus during my fourth year of medical school and found myself surrounded by passionate, welcoming, and supportive individuals. I hoped I would be able to join a residency program that would become a second family and that was exactly the impression UMass gave. My goal was always to return to MA to practice medicine and be closer to my family. The realization that I am completing my training with UMass still feels surreal. Hobbies: Rollerblading with my dog Willow, downhill skiing, figure skating, track and field (particularly horizontal jumps), ax throwing, escaping to the ORV Corridor at Race Point in Provincetown, and don’t even get me started on houseplants. I’m always looking for a new home for my propagations. Fun Facts: I had the privilege to be an assistant coach, specializing in sprints and horizontal jumps, with the Mount Holyoke Women’s Track and Field Team for a year before starting medical school. Prior to that I was part of the team as a Biologist at Next Advance in Troy, NY where my contributions earned recognition and we were awarded International, European, and US patents for the Checkit.

		Arley Donovan, MD (she/her/hers) Medical School: Robert Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont Undergraduate: University of Maryland-College Park Hometown: Carlisle, MA Family Medicine interests: Full-Spectrum Primary Care with OB, Women's Health, Addiction Medicine, Preventative Medicine, Palliative Care Why did I choose to train at Barre? I knew that I wanted to return to Massachusetts for training to be closer to my family. I chose Barre because I was drawn to the mix of training at both a large academic medical center in a diverse community like Worcester and a small town clinic in the Barre clinic. I also felt like I really connected with everyone I met on interview day and I was drawn to the commitment to full spectrum primary care. Hobbies: Spending time by any body of water, hiking, biking, snowboarding, checking out breweries, spending time with my husband and son! Fun Facts: I used to work at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC!! I enjoy ax throwing, escaping to the ORV Corridor at Race Point in Provincetown, and don’t even get me started on houseplants. I’m always looking for a new home for my propagations.

		Tony Hu, DO (he/him/his) Medical School: Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University Graduate: MS in Medical Science, Boston University, Undergraduate: Boston College Hometown: East Providence, RI Family Medicine interests: outpatient procedures, OMT, full spectrum practice Why did I choose to train with Barre? For a good combination of exposure to rural and urban cases Hobbies: martial arts, lion dance, cooking, computer games (i.e. League of Legends, Minecraft) Fun Facts: I met the actor for Karate Kid (Ralph Maccio) when I was in college; he was helping his son? (Don’t remember) move in. And I was almost named “Too” due to a recommendation by a family friend.

		Noah Welker, MD, Chief Resident (he/him/his) Medical School: Wayne State University School of Medicine Undergraduate: University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Hometown: Dearborn Heights, MI Family Medicine interests: Full-spectrum primary care, Outpatient Care, Social Determinants of Health, Sports Medicine, and Teaching Why did I choose to train at Barre? I chose UMass Barre for multiple different reasons. I wanted to train at a program that will prepare me for full-spectrum primary care practice. The combination of urban practice at the UMass hospitals and rural practice at the Barre clinic also offers a unique training environment. Lastly, I was able to work a month at UMass on an away rotation in August of my 4th year of medical school, and I felt right at home with the community of attendings and residents. Hobbies: Basketball, Soccer, Golf, Board Games, Playing Violin, Detroit Sports, University of Michigan Football (Go Blue!) Fun Fact: I helped create a backyard version of the reality TV show "Survivor" with some friends from home, that's since had 6 seasons with the most recent being released on YouTube this year.
