Superb Family Medicine Training in a Picturesque New England Town!
For 48 years, the Barre Family Health Center (BFHC) has been the sole provider of health care for the people of Barre and its surrounding communities. Patients in more rural settings are often underserved, contending with challenges such as transportation issues and lack of access to health care. At BFHC we provide first-rate, comprehensive preventive, urgent, and chronic care to our community, while educating residents who graduate our program prepared for whatever Family Medicine path they choose.
Our State-of-the-Art Facility
We are proud of our state-of-the-art health center. In addition to the basics, it is enhanced with on-site stress testing, a fully equipped treatment area for assessment and stabilization, procedure rooms, osteopathic treatment rooms, a CLIA-certified laboratory, digital radiography featuring real–time access to a radiologist, bedside ultrasound, bone densitometry and digital mammography.
Access to a Major Academic Medical Center
Epic, our electronic medical record, offers electronic prescribing, electronic ordering and results verification, sharing of medical information throughout our institution and improved flow of and access to medical information between providers in our facility. Video teleconferencing brings hospital-based conferences, meetings and Grand Rounds to Barre. Specialists from UMass Chan Center are an Epic chat message or e-mail away and always willing to collaborate on a case, review an x-ray, or make recommendations that require specialty input.
The Barre “Family"
In Barre, we work hard, but we also play hard. Recent health center events have included a Mardi-Gras celebration, Trunk-or-Treat Halloween for the children of health center employees, and most recently, our inaugural Barre Family Health Center Field Day. Our Barre Wellness Garden is a labor of love located just outside our health center doors. Started by residents, and largely maintained by residents, the Wellness Garden is often a meeting place for good company while planting, weeding, and harvesting. The BFHC Book Club is in its fifth year and provides an opportunity each month for Barre team members, past and present, to gather and discuss a fun read over dinner.
