Becker’s Hospital Review has recognized UMass Memorial Health as part of its 100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs – 2024. Featured for its accolades of high performance in the areas of cardiac bypass surgery, heart attack, and heart failure, the Cardiovascular Center also shined for pioneering “the use of fiber optic real shape technology for minimally invasive aortic aneurysm repairs.” Additionally, it was recognized as “among the first to implement the FARAPULSE pulsed field ablation system for arrhythmia treatment.” Becker’s further noted the center’s emphasis on teaching, research, and cutting-edge treatments, reporting that it is “supported by over $26 million in National Institutes of Health and industry grants.”
“It is significant for the UMass Memorial cardiovascular program to be recognized alongside leading cardiovascular programs in the U.S.,” said Vaikom S. Mahadevan, MD, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. “This is a recognition of the excellent clinical and academic work done within Cardiovascular Medicine and allied areas.” He continued, “It raises the profile of UMass Memorial Cardiovascular Medicine nationally and within Massachusetts.”
Dr. Mahadevan stressed that this recognition represents the hard work of the entire team and went on to acknowledge all the faculty members, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, administrative and leadership personnel, trainees, and above all the patients trusting the team to serve them. He is also grateful for the work of the UMass Memorial media team and the support of the Department of Medicine, UMMH, and UMass Chan leadership.
