Research

Lab Website

Our laboratory is interested in the molecular mechanisms that control cell growth and proliferation, and in understanding how these mechanisms are disrupted in cancer cells. We are studying how transcription, phosphorylation and protein degradation contribute to the regulatory network that controls the cell cycle. To do this, we use genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology, in both yeast and human cells, with the goal of understanding properties of cell cycle control networks that are conserved in diverse systems.

Rotation Projects

Rotation projects are available on several topics, including: (i) understanding how the cell cycle-regulatory transcription factor network is rewired in response to environmental signals, (ii) elucidating how changes in chromosome structure are coordinated with cell cycle progression, and (iii) identifying targets of ubiquitin ligases and deubiquitinating enyzmes whose functions impact the cell cycle. Most rotation projects will involve a combination of yeast genetics, molecular, and cell biology approaches.

Positions Available

A postdoctoral position is available in this laboratory. Interested candidates should send a CV and cover letter describing their specific interests to Dr. Benanti.
