Brendan Chisholm serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Management and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Chisholm was named to the position in June of 2010. In this role, he is a key member of Chancellor Michael F. Collins’ senior management team and works closely with Dr. Collins and other campus leaders to advance the mission and strategic goals of UMMS.
Reporting directly to Chancellor Collins, Chisholm assists in the day-to-day management of the UMMS enterprise. He oversees and participates in all senior management meetings and facilitates communication among and workflow between the Chancellor’s Office and key administrative departments and units on campus. Additionally, he serves as the main liaison to the campus vice chancellors and the University’s System Office. Among other responsibilities, Chisholm plays an active role in advancing the medical school’s institutional partnerships locally and globally; overseeing all university events taking place during the academic year; and developing and implementing a new strategic direction for UMMS and a coordinated life sciences strategy for the UMass System.
Prior to assuming the chief of staff position, Chisholm served as the Director of Health Sciences Initiatives at UMMS. While in this position, he supported Chancellor Collins in his role as Senior Vice President for the Health Sciences and contributed to the development of the first life sciences strategic plan for the five-campus UMass System. Chisholm began his tenure with the university on the UMass Boston campus, where he served as Chancellor Collins’ special assistant. Before coming to the university, Chisholm worked as a legislative aide at the Massachusetts State House.
