Using Behavioral Activation in treating PTSD

Behavioral Activation (BA) is a brief and relatively simple treatment based upon basic behavioral principles. BA emerged as a leading treatment protocol for depression following a series of studies in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since that time it has been applied to a range of clinical problems and is well-suited to integrated primary care settings.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who experiences a traumatic event like combat, assault, or disaster. As a result, many primary care patients have PTSD. One might not immediately think about primary care as a provider of treatment for PTSD but in practices that integrate physical and mental health, it is common.
