Technology Requirement
The medical school has implemented a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program which gives students the choice to purchase a new laptop to bring to Medical School, or bring their own existing laptop providing it meets the system requirements.
System Requirements, listed below, are recommended to ensure that a laptop is a successful portal to all UMass Chan digital resources, including online course content in Blackboard Learn, streaming lectures and podcasts, Virtual Microscopy slides, and digital lecture notes which can be personalized and annotated. Online exams are conducted by course teams within Blackboard, ExamSoft as well as by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). NBME has strict requirements that rule out the use of Chromebooks, and devices with displays smaller than 13", which includes Microsoft Surface and similar tablet devices. Also, Windows 7, Windows Home editions and Linux/BSD are not supported as they do not meet security standards. See drop downs below for full requirements.
Information Technology and the academic community have collaborated to create an inventory of software required for both the Windows and Macintosh environments.
