Clinical Education Sites 

Emergency Medicine residents spend some of their clinical rotation time working in the emergency departments at the following hospitals:

UMass Memorial Medical Center — University and Memorial Campuses

University Campus – The University Campus is the primary teaching site for the emergency medicine program in addition to other residency programs.  It has 417 acute care beds and houses the Duddie Massad Emergency and Trauma Center – the regions only Level 1 Trauma Center.  Specialties at the University Campus range from radiation therapy and cancer care to trauma and critical care to advanced cardiovascular care.  The majority of your emergency residency rotations are located here under the supervision of board certified emergency physicians.  The pediatric emergency room is also located at University Campus which is a 13 bed separate area staffed by pediatric emergency medicine trained faculty.   

Memorial Campus - The Memorial Campus is located approximately 1.5-miles from the University campus.  The Memorial Campus major clinical services include: obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology, hematology, oncology, primary care, cardiovascular medicine, surgery and emergency medicine. 

The Memorial Campus is the regional perinatal center with the only neonatal intensive care unit and is the regional transfer unit for high-risk pregnancies.  It is also the primary teaching site for obstetrics/gynecology of the UMass Medical School.  

Milford Regional Medical Center 

Milford Regional Medical Center, a major affiliate of UMass Memorialis a 145-bed community hospital with training programs in emergency medicine and internal medicine, serves 18 communities southeast of Worcester.  Residents in the UMass Chan program rotate through the Emergency Department during their first and second year.

The attending-to-resident ratio allows individualized teaching in a state-of the-art, 30,000 sq. foot department built in 2015.  

Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center 

The Kaiser Permanente Hospital located in beautiful Oahu, provides third-year residents with a unique opportunity to spend one month treating tropical and marine diseases and gain experience in the treatment of dive injuries using hyperbaric chambers. Travel expenses, including flight, housing and rental car, are provided.
