Active students, residents and graduates

Our NCC research laboratory has a long-standing tradition of mentoring medical students, residents and fellows. All of our graduates have joined prestigious programs following their research with us. All of our mentees have presented posters or oral abstracts at national or international conferences and have converted these abstracts to manuscripts.

Current student and resident lab members:

  • Kelsey Goostrey, BA: MPH Class of 2021
    • Was named an All-American Scholar by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA)
    • Goal for 2020 is to run a half-marathon

  • Beshoy Armanios, BS: MPH Class of 2021
    • Aim to gain entry into a molecular biology and pharmacology doctorate program
    • Go Friars
  • Christopher Lee, BS: UMMS Class of 2021
    • Role: research supervisor, Capstone Project advisor (2018-present) 
      • Enjoys playing classical piano to unwind each day
      • Ran Track and Cross Country in college
  • Kelsey Jones, BS: UMMS Class of 2021
    • Role: research supervisor 
      • Loves to de-stress by baking and watching Great British Baking Show
      • Reading and writing are favorite pastimes
  • Connie Ge, BS: UMMS Class of 2022
    • Role: research supervisor  
    • Awarded American Academy of Neurology Summer Student Research scholarship and American Academy of Neurology Annuel Meeting Travel Grant 2020 (cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic)
      • Loves painting and contemporary visual arts
      • Recently adopted a beautiful 8 year old cat named Skye
      • Enjoys hiking, especially during the colder months - she has developed a healthy fear of sunburn after living in Texas!

  • Saef Izzy, MD: Graduated from UMASS Neurology residency and joined the Harvard Combined (MGH/BWH) Neurocritical Care Fellowship. He is currently Neurocritical care Faculty at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA
  • Marcey Osgood, DO: Graduated from UMASS Neurology residency and joined the Cleveland Clinic Neurocritical Care Fellowship. She is currently Neurocritical care Faculty at UMASS Medical School, Worcester, MA and a faculty member of our research team

  • Sanam Baghshomali, MD: Graduated from UMASS Neurology residency and joined the University of Pennsylvania Neurocritical Care Fellowship and the Case Western Stroke Fellowship.

Graduated in 2012

  • Lucia Rivera Lara, MD: Graduated from UMASS Neurology residency and joined the Johns Hopkins University Neurocritical Care Fellowship. She is currently Neurocritical care Faculty at the Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, MD

Graduated in 2011

  • Nathanael Slater, DO: Graduated from UMASS Anesthesiology residency and joined the UMASS SICU fellowship. He was anesthesiology faculty at UMASS and is now in private practice in New Hampshire.
