At UMass Medical School (UMMS), our health plans offered through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC) provide comprehensive coverage and the flexibility to help you make the right choice for you and your family. Click on the left navigation menu items to access other benefit option information.

Enrollment Information

You must enroll as a new hire within your first 10 calendar days of employment; otherwise, you may enroll during the Open Enrollment period that occurs each April/May with coverage effective July 1. Note: Certain family status changes may enable you to enroll other than as a new hire or during open enrollment. Please refer to the Life Events tab in the top navigation bar for more information.

When does coverage begin?

Coverage begins on the first of the month following 60 days of employment, or two full calendar months, whichever occurs first.

It is recommended that all UMMS employees arrange for health insurance coverage during the 60-day interim period. Click here for coverage options.
