VALUES DEFINITIONS
Dignity & Respect Dignity & Respect is the recognition of every individual's inherent and equal worth, expressed through mutual respect in every interaction. It calls nurses to ethically honor each person's values, experiences, culture, and autonomy while providing compassionate, equitable, and attentive care. These values form the foundation of all professional relationships, including among students, faculty, staff, clinical partners, and communities we serve. In practice, this means listening without judgment, protecting privacy, advocating for patients' rights, and partnering with individuals and families in ways that affirm their humanity.
Service Service is a committment to nursing knowledge, compassion, and leadership to promote health, advance equity, and improve the well-being of individuals and communities.
Scientific Advancement/ Innovation Scientific advancement and innovation in nursing refer to the generation, translation, and application of knowledge that improves health outcomes, advances nursing practice, and transforms healthcare systems. This includes rigorous inquiry, evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and the ethical use of emerging technologies and educational approaches.
Equity Equity is the commitment to creating inclusive academic and clinical environments where all individuals can thrive by identifying and addressing structural barriers, ensuring fair access to education, resources, and opportunities, and actively supporting learners and scholars to succeed regardless of background. Rooted in restorative justice and community-building practices, it fosters belonging, cultivates compassion, and advances health for all.
Accountability Accountability is the ethical and professional obligation to reflect on one's behaviors, actions, and decisions, to take responsibility for their outcomes, and to uphold the standards set forth in the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses across practice, research, and education.
Collaboration Collaboration is a purposeful, reciprocal process in which learners, faculty, healthcare professionals, community partners, and stakeholders work together across disciplines and settings to co-create knowledge, improve health outcomes, advance equity, and strengthen systems of care
