UMass Chan Medical School Fellowship in Neuropsychology
The UMass Memorial Health neuropsychology group is part of the Neuropsychiatry Division in the Psychiatry Department. The group is housed within the Outpatient Psychiatry Department. The two year fellowship in adult neuropsychology meets Houston Conference Guidelines. The program provides comprehensive evaluations to a diverse patient population at a health safety net hospital. Common evaluation types include dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The neuropsychology group receives referrals for cross-cultural evaluation, including testing with interpreters. Training involves a busy clinical practice in neuropsychological evaluation.
Additional opportunities in training are collaboratively designed to meet the fellow’s training and professional goals. Opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- evaluation of surgical candidacy in patients with intractable epilepsy
- group and individual cognitive rehabilitation
- brief ADHD evaluations in a specialized clinic
- program development
- structured mentorship of professional development and/or job search in the second year
- tiered supervision in the second year, through faculty-supervised work with practicum students and/or doctoral interns
Postdoctoral fellows begin the Massachusetts state psychology licensure process at the beginning of fellowship. Resources for licensure include financial support for licensure fees and EPPP preparation. Licensure and credentialing lead to increased salary.
Postdoctoral fellows are employees of UMass Chan Medical School. All fellows have access to full benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance and paid vacation and sick time. A small practice allowance is provided to be used for conference fees, books, and membership in professional associations. The first year salary is $50,000.
