Professional Space Usage

The space at Mass Chan Medical School iCELS, spanning over two levels at the Albert Sherman Center on UMass Chan campus in Worcester, Massachusetts (MA), is designed to be customizable so it can deliver realistic simulation of clinic rooms, inpatient facilities, disaster sites, and other health care settings - bolstered by our access to healthcare equipment and standardized patients, also known as patient actors. Let our staff work collaboratively with you to maximize the use of space, facilities, and services, to deliver a simulated healthcare environment that best suits your needs. For Education Sessions

We welcome iCELS users throughout the year and are committed to equitable access to the facilities by programs throughout the academic medical center as well as our colleagues throughout the region. We are committed to maintaining the iCELS as a professional clinical learning space to ensure that all of our users have an optimal clinical training experience. Please follow these steps:

  • All clients using the iCELS facilities should read through our Scheduling and Space Usage Protocols prior to reserving any space usage.
  • To reserve space, equipment and/or staff support, submit a completed Event Space Reservation Form.
  • A planning session with iCELS staff is required prior to final confirmation of a reservation for new users or for experienced users with new cases/curriculum. Our team can provide tours of the facility, and work with you to create or enhance your program goals.
  • In the event of cancellations, iCELS must be informed at least 72 hours (three business days) prior to the start of the scheduled use. If cancellations occur within 72 hours (three business days) of scheduled use, iCELS will charge for all contracted services.

For Film & Photo Shoots

The space at UMass Chan Medical School iCELS is available as a rental location for film and photo shoots by organizations not affiliated with the Medical School. Clients may reserve our simulation space, simulation equipment, patient actors, and/or staff support. Our experienced staff has worked with external clients to create realistic scenes for films and photo shoots.

To Rent our Professional Space for Film & Photo Shoots, please follow these steps:

  • All clients using the iCELS facilities should read through our Scheduling and Space Usage Protocols prior to reserving any space use.
  • To reserve space, equipment and/or staff support, submit a completed Event Space Reservation Form.
  • A planning session with iCELS staff is required prior to final confirmation of a reservation for Film & Photo Shoots. Our team can provide tours of the facility, and work with you to create or enhance your project's goals.

Space Features & Data Sheet

Designed for flexibility and adaptability, the UMass Chan Medical School iCELS space can be specifically configured to create the customized milieu that replicates the look and feel of an authentic healthcare environment, through mixed usage of our facilities and services, including:

  • 20 clinic exam rooms furnished with ambulatory care equipment and supplies
  • 4 large simulation scenario rooms that can be set up in various ways to mimic clinical and/or emergency situations to develop team-based skills
  • Clinical skills lab with 11 beds/stations with an array of patient care equipment and supplies and three stations with wall mounted air/suction
  • 2 technical skills lab features separate wet and dry lab space to provide training modalities from wet tissue to virtual reality
  • 10 multifunctional conference style rooms for pre-briefing, debriefing, didactic sessions
  • A community of ~100 standardized patients representing a diverse mix of races, ages, genders and lifestyles

About iCELS Professional Space Usage

Am I eligible to use UMass Chan Medical School iCELS space?

iCELS welcomes reservations for professional space usage throughout the year and are committed to equitable access to its facilities by programs throughout the academic medical center as well as our colleagues throughout the region. External clients not affiliated with the medical school or the medical center, are also welcomed to enquire on the rental of iCELS location for film and photo shoots. 

Will the location be available for the dates I want?

iCELS runs a number of sessions and activities in its 24,000 sq ft space spanning 2 levels at UMass Chan Medical School campus Albert Sherman Center. Some periods are busier than others. We value your interest in using iCELS location, and would like to make the best arrangement for your activities. A planning session with iCELS staff will be required, prior to final confirmation of a reservation for new users or for experienced users with new cases/curriculum. Our team can provide tours of the facility, and work with you to create or enhance your program goals. The most accurate way to find out about space, equipment and/or staff support availability, is to submit a completed Professional Space Usage Reservation Form
