Teaching and Research
Residents are responsible for much of the instruction for rotating 4th year medical students, medicine residents, family practice residents, and pediatric residents. On average, 2 students and one or 2 rotating residents are assigned to dermatology each month. Residents also teach 1st and 2nd year medical students during pre-clinical dermatology blocks.
Most residents have participated in clinical research and other scholarly projects such as preparing case reports, reviewing articles, writing textbook chapters, and developing internet-based teaching materials. Every resident also participates in a quality improvement project during residency. The residency program has been acknowledged by the Dermatology Residency Review Committee for outstanding resident participation in research and scholarly activities.
While most residents do not participate in bench research during their three years, it is possible to do so for interested candidates. See our research page for details and ongoing projects.
