With more than 20 years of experience in facilities management and energy operations, Joe leads initiatives focused on system reliability, infrastructure modernization, and sustainability. He works closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure critical services remain available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Bruce Hjort serves as Assistant Director of the UMass Chan Combined Heat & Power Plant, where he helps lead the day-to-day operation of the campus's critical energy infrastructure with over 30 years of experience. Working alongside plant personnel, engineers, and campus partners, he helps ensure the reliable delivery of the electricity, steam, and chilled water that support research laboratories, classrooms, and clinical facilities.
Bruce's responsibilities include coordinating operations, maintenance, supporting infrastructure improvements, and promoting a culture centered on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. His collaborative leadership helps maintain the resilient utility systems that enables UMass Chan to operate around the clock.
